Absence makes the heart fonder?*
Well, did u dear readers miss me on my "day off" from blogging last night? Actually I was online, but didn't feel I had enough time to type a decent post. Spoke to Qiying online and confirmed a suspicion I had had earlier, which my brother had mentioned before as well: Sometimes I report too much and don't crap enough over here, much like Ho-Fung's comprehensive guide to life in UK. So here I shall talk more cock and add more cent's (uhm, more like pences') worth of my mind. But it can be quite time-wasting to do so... that's why...
First up is "local" news. BG Lee Hsien Loong is gonna take over the Prime Minister-ship of Singapore on 12th August. So it's come full circle for the Lees. Despite the feel-good portrayal of the appointment (we saw this coming like, 12, 14 years ago? That's when LSL was made the deputy PM) there will be lingering ill-will of nepotism. I mean, we all knew that he'd be PM one day. Lee Kuan Yew personally made sure that he was around to see that happening. Now at least he has to let go of the post he created for himself to oversee things when he "handed over" the premiership all those years ago. PM Goh will become the new Senior Minister. Unless some policy change comes about again. And LKY still talks too much for his age. But then I dun care... the younger generation is looking up to history which sings praises of him, and blindly believes he is all that great. For someone whose achievements I have not witnessed in my lifetime, I'd at least reserve comment anytime. No disrespect, but even Muhammad Ali (whose sport I don't support) or Tan Tock Seng deserve more, if u just go by records u hear about. Too little attention is focussed on the other important fixtures of what is called Singapore's Old Guard, and LKY just soaks up everything. The limelight doesn't last so long; he's lucky. They should tell the young 'uns here all about the contribution of some other ministers who worked the ground and toiled endlessly for our dear Mr Lee!
And Lee Hsien Loong, as I have seen, doesn't know how to talk. When he opens his mouth, he is not conciliatory even when the situation calls for it. A good leader knows when to change his tone at least, but he just thinks he's right. Fair enough, nothing he does will be wrong. At least in the media. Even the IDA could afford to waste a few hundred million of taxpayers' money over a "honest mistake" in favour of Hsien Loong's brother's company. And the coffers of the NKF are so full it's almost revolting they are still asking for donations as if they cannot live for tomorrow.
Okay, enough about some big-headed politician with a towkay mentality now... later I kena sue, even worse! All my lawyer frds are still in school you know, and anyway even if they take up the case they might be blacklisted before graduation, or, for the foreigners, asked to leave Singapore immediately and never to return. Oh, the brilliance of a certain Mr Lee..
