Remember to stay cheerful ok!! Smile! (You know who you are..)
Yesterday, I came across a stupendous blog linked to some of my friends studying in IMU... have a look! Absolutely superb. Here's an appetiser, stolen from the archives. Something about 端午节 (Dumpling Festival).
>>>
The story of 端午节 revolves around a very unfortunate person called 屈原 (Qu Yuan) around 340 to 278 BC. He is a poet, a member of the ruling house, a stateman and diplomat from the State of Chu (楚) during the later War Period of China (战国末期), holding the state strongly against its enemy - Qin (秦).
He could have been a very successful person, I think. But his name spoiled all his fortune. His surname 屈 (Qu), unfortunately, carries the meaning 'framed'. And his name 原 (Yuan) has the same Cantonese pronunciation as 完, meaning over, done, finished, kicked the bucket, kaput whatever.
So his fellow bapok ministers were very jealous of him. And due to various briberies, office politics and farked ups, he was framed and framed again and again - 屈完又屈. But always, he damn thick face go back to his office ignoring the negativities that he received, despite his tulanness, just to serve faithfully to his king and patriotically to his state.
In 313 BC, the stupid bapok King of Chu banished 屈原 from the capital because one bastard sonofabitch 张仪 (Zhang Yi) from the State of Qin managed to create some anti-Qu Yuan clique shit in the politics.
In 299 BC, the King of Qin wanted to invite King of Chu over to yumcha. 屈原 immediately know that something fishy was going on. He thick face thick face die die went beck to King of Chu unmalufiably to advise him not to go. But King of Chu refused to listen to him. Instead, 屈原 was deported for the 83,774th time. On the way, the King of Chu was seized by Qin troops. He finally thank-Godfully died in captivity three years later.
In 280 BC, Qin launched an overall invasion of Chu and in 278 BC captured the capital. This news reached the then sixty over years old but still strong Qu Yuan while he was humping a chick in a sauna near the Miluo River in northeastern Hunan province. There, he wrote a poem called 离骚, which literally can mean 'goodbye humsupness' (see, I told you he had been humping).
In frustration at being unable to do anything to save his state, he decided to leap into the river to end his life. But he got one problem, he knows how to swim! Boh pien, since he is a stubborn person, he decided to go ahead anyway. His clever blain suggested that he clasped a big stone along to help him sink. The stone was successful in helping him reach the bottom of the river fast...
Then he panicked, he foooooking ... panicked. He swam and swam and swam but soon lost his orientation in the dark river at night like a shark got its dorsal fin cut off. His lungs soon got flooded with water and diatoms ... and he drowned.
When people found out that he had leaped into the river, they tried to retrieve his body from the river for cryogenic preservation. People were afraid that the fishes in the river may mutilate his body beyond recognition, they boiled 粽子 and threw them into the river to feed them fishes, hoping that the fishes would leave the body alone. Some people threw egg, some people poured 雄黄酒 (a kind of booze) into the river to get the fishes drunk. But his body was never found.

Pure heaven. Without authorisation from him (yet). Will prob ask him for permission to link to my blog when I come round to doing it up properly.
