Just embarked on my big move, after having lain dormant for so long.
Perhaps I have upgraded in some ways. I like to think I have indeed.
Birmingham is in no small measure an outstanding destination in the isles of GB. It is a city brimming with under-explored culture, though I have yet to discover something lasting or substantively unique, like what Liverpool or Edinburgh offers. In recent years it has been regenerated and blossomed from its predominantly dark and uninspiring industrial background into a city that just lost the bid to become the first UK City of Culture in 2013 (losing to Londonderry???? I really didn't know Derry had that much going for it when I went there back in 2005). B'ham is also awe-inspiring for its shopping and cosmopolitan feel. As a city kid I am happy to be wandering around the centre of town, and happy to be living not too far away from the hustle and bustle (for now).
I think I might be able to embark on something very exciting in the next few months. I need to feel empowered, and BE empowered. I think the surroundings are finally empowering me to make the most of what I have. I like to think big, but I usually get lazy and bogged down in some nitty-gritty. I live life comfortably and am reasonably savvy with finances so have not had any worries, but the time comes for me to step up. Maybe I can start a small side business and start tax-deducting my expenses as a one-man-enterprise. Haha.
*title of the post is a spoof of the movie title "500 Days of Summer" - "brum" being the nickname of birmingham. 500 days is in fact about right, given two years equates to 104 weeks, which is about 520 working days. (But minus my bumper holidays it is actually less than 500!)
