Another defining moment...

Whoa... had Mathematics 2 exam today. I was, um, testing a theory about whether a whole day of minimal studying and some GTA would be a good prelude to some mad rushing on the morning of the afternoon paper the next day.
Which goes to show that proper practice & revision WELL before the paper is always advisable.

Did a count of the marks I could get today. I think I'll scrape an A. Fingers crossed. I went out a little shell-shocked (not normally the case, as you know) cos I spent a mighty long time doing the matrix question and it still turned out wrong. Haiz, it was always going to be hard without prior practice. And that stupid Laplace transform question with the ultra-complicated partial fractions bit also caught me out. Not to mention the irritating Fourier Series one. Who was to say that I had to use the mean value? Why didn't anyone tell me? But I might get full marks for that question yet, cos I made my extra n and pi magically disappear under the guise of my excellent handwriting (now you know what it's for!).

Now I think I should relax after a gruelling day. GTA anyone??

Had Electronics 2 today. Simple paper. One first class in the bag, 5 more to go...

Yesterday was the unexpected European Champions Cup final between Porto and Monaco. Watched most of it live on tv. I was supportive of Monaco but Porto played better. And it didn't help that Monaco captain Ludovic Giuly was injured early in the first half. The opening goal was an opportunistic strike by that Brazilian teenager. Rather lucky, and the keeper did not have half a chance. The second goal was a defensive error. Porto caught Monaco on the break, and instead of shadowing Deco, who stopped near the edge of the box, the central defender retreated well into his area, leaving Deco free to shoot intelligently into the left side while goalkeeper Roma went the other way. The third goal was a product of another break, where substitute Alenichev gained possession of a deflected cross. This time the keeper was at fault. He had enough time and space and should have reached the ball before Alenichev. Or at least closed him off but instead waited for him to take control of the ball. Needless to say, it went in, but the keeper's lack of a quick run off his line was sore. And the strike was a typical thump which the keeper misjudged too. What had started as a balanced match ended up with Porto walking away with an emphatic 3-0 victory.

After one day off...

Okay, more news for you..
1) My exchange/transfer to Japan is off... cos I will have to cough up >5000 pounds for half fees for that year out which is not financially feasible (unless someone wants to sponsor me?? In that case please provide me with 10000 pds hee)
2) Some days ago my bicycle tyre got punctured when a friend borrowed it for a spin so he's gonna get it fixed for me.
3) I keep getting "attacked" on port 10297.. detected by my firewall..
4) My brother called yesterday!! Had been a mighty long time since I'd spoken to him. Too bad we couldn't talk long cos he sway-sway called my 0870 (room) number whose charges broke the ceiling. Literally. Wiped off 40 minutes that he could have spoken with me on my handphone in just one minute. Glad to hear he's having a very good time.
5) My flight back is confirmed: 20th June flying at 6.30pm.. arrival ard 2.15pm Singapore time 21st June (Monday). Anyone wanna come and welcome me? Don't forget the red carpet hurhur...
The Japan one might be a good thing anyway. Had some lingering doubts and stuff cos it would have involved me spending another year bumming around. So that means those corridor-mates I have chosen to stay with next year will have to face me every day after all! Ha!
Okay, that's enough for now. Should be doing some reacquaintance with my books instead of talking to a screen with one bad pixel. I'm well off the pace already.

Something hit me today...

Just a quick update... and maybe I won't share too much here... found out something from the past today... just now, while speaking to my junior. Can say it put some confidence in me, or perhaps some doubts? But it also can be said that things could have been a *bit* different.
Hits my theory right on the head. When it comes to life, you can never be too sure..

Finally did Fourier series. What a waste of time! Turned out to be quite easy. brilliant man he was... Now for Laplace and his First Shift and Convolution theorems. And of course Programming and Signals & Systems!!

the day of reckoning...

Last night.. we were supposed to be there for only a "couple of hours", but ended up coming back only after 3am. Alamak, went to sleep immediately so that I could get up early and study today. While there, I had a nice time reliving days of PS (which I've never been good at), playing some football game similar to Winning Eleven. And of all things, I scored with a free-kick! Craig Bellamy's strike sinks France. 1-0! Hope he had a great birthday.

Earlier today, Man Utd beat the crap out of Dennis "the bully" Wise's Millwall in the FA Cup final. I watched most of the match live.. A good header from Ronaldo who did a stupendous technically-difficult cross in the first half. Strong dribbling by Giggs to earn a penalty, the first of two Van Nistelrooy strikes.

Fourier was a really brilliant man. Too bad he couldn't simplify his series more.

No music today. Haha.

Day 4.. with no signs of stopping...

Yesterday night I had some interestingly new chocolate-flavoured sago. Been very weird this week, being treated a few times to all these somewhat unexpected invitations. Having a harrowing time trying to study: and my friend was asking me if I started on Signals & Systems cos he had sth abt Q-factor and Bode plot to ask me.. oops.. really couldn't help cos I haven't even started on my Maths which comes first. And Programming.
Dr. Pearce (my personal tutor) is nowhere to be found... heard he's in Germany. So I have to postpone my application to Japan for a while since I need him to sign some documents for me.
Last night I played GTA (GrandTheftAuto-Vice City) and finally passed that mission! Turned out to be so simple once I placed the getaway car properly. And the next mission too.. heh..
And there's a birthday gathering for a friend tonight too~ now to start on work ---

Full-time Bio tutor, part-time Engineering student?

These past few days have been rather topsy-turvy... and I have friends asking me about the CNS (Central Nervous System), synaptic transfer, role of calcium in muscular contraction, control of the heart... And how to convert between units of measure!!
Last night was invited to have some red bean soup for dessert.. In case you were wondering what the fuss is, we don't get much of these oriental desserts over here. That's why... anyway someone forgot to soak the beans beforehand so they were a bit on the hard side.
All righty, I'll be starting on Fourier Series and Laplace Transform today. Bo pian liao, can't wait longer. And hopefully Programming & Numerical Methods too.

Old friend returns...

A rather unexpected event caused me to lose some precious study time... an old friend replied to my message after a long time... thought I had lost contact with all of them.. I'd gladly lose more study time like that.. ok, maybe not. =)
So I ended up chatting with her for some time.. anyway I was trying to change some of the code on this blog too, and a large part of my time went to surfing on Friendster. Haiz-- really shud start on my notes...
Ok, after dinner, that is. Boy, am I hungry.

Arrgh exams coming...

Ok, I'm not panicking, but just a practical realisation of my current situation. Still alive and kicking, but in a fairly precarious state nevertheless. But look on the bright side, there's only 4 more modules for me to start on, since I've already started on the other 2 (one of which is the last paper)! And I've got a nice 8 days to do that!
Managed to grab Mr. Beavitt finally. He's the Study Abroad co-ordinator. Did I mention I might be taking a slack year out to Japan on transfer? Details will be out only when I can finalise most of the stuff.. which may not be realised at all.. heh.. never mind.. I am not sure myself if that's the "right" decision anyway.. nothing "left" up there I guess..
